Ophthalmologists are physicians who specialize in the medical and surgical care of the eye.
Ten years ago, only 40% of all ophthalmologic procedures were performed in an outpatient surgery center, where you go home the same day. Today, we treat most eye conditions in the surgery center, allowing for a convenient and cost-effective experience for our patients. Premier Surgery Center is specially designed to accommodate the innovative medical technology that ophthalmologists use to perform their surgeries and our entire team is focused on providing the highest quality care for our patients.
Our opthamologists are some of Georgia’s best and most talented eye surgeons and they can offer several procedures at Premier Surgery Center, including:
Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is one of the most common and successful surgeries in the United States. In fact, 50% of people will need cataract surgery as they age. Cataracts form on the lens of the eye as a normal part of the aging process. When proteins are deposited on the lens, it leaves a cloudy layer. This cloudiness impairs vision and for many people greatly reduces their quality of life as it limits many common activities such as, driving, watching TV, and reading. Cataract surgery removes that cloudy layer of the lens and places a new lens on the eye that restores clear vision. Typically, patients are awake during cataract surgery, there is little to no discomfort during the procedure, and the recovery time in in the surgery center is minimal.
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is another common surgery performed at Premier Surgery Center. Over time and with normal aging, the skin on the eyelids stretches causing drooping and excess skin on the eyelids. In this procedure, the doctor removes the excess skin from the eyelids to produce a more youthful and alert look. Blepharoplasty is often considered a cosmetic procedure, however, in some cases the excess skin on the eyelids can be significant enough to impair vision. When that happens, this procedure is deemed medically necessary and is most often covered by insurance. A blepharoplasty is performed using a local anesthetic to numb the eyelid and the patient is awake, so the time spent in the surgery center recovering is very short.
The ophthalmologists at Premier Surgery Center are top-rated and focused on providing each patient with the best possible care. Our entire team of medical professionals is dedicated to your comfort and recovery at Premier Surgery Center.
